Alnwick Garden Nortumberland

Alnwick Garden is surrounded by high walls hiding the landscape within. I had high expectations of this attraction, with a glossy impressive brochure and a tempting web site plus attendance at the RHS Tatton Flower Show I anticipated a real treat. we were up in Northumberland for a week and save the day of best weather to make the most of the gardens. On entering the gardens through the main entrance set before you is a grand cascade for which the gardens are renowned. Whilst impressive for a short time they did not maintain my interest long. I have seen far better water features many times over including those at Barcelona leading up to the Olympic stadium or the water features at Chatsworth. At the time of visiting towards the tail end of the summer I would have expected the gardens to be in full flourish but they were dissapointing and not well cared for. After this the only further area to look at were a handful of poor modern fountains which didn't really captivate and a maze which took less than a minute to find the centre. Overall the anticipation of Alnwick Gardenswas more interesting than the reality, if you want to save yourself some time, just browse the flier and you have seen what there is to see. Having recently been to the Eden Project, Scampston Hall Walled Gardens and Trentham Italian Gardens I know there are plenty better places to go before heading for Alnwick. More Information
