With the painful response ads from Microsoft it is amusing to see that Apple are continuing to raise the bar.


gif image, 1x1 pixels OS X web browsers problem

I have had problems browsing some sites on my iMac using Leopard OS X 10.5. All i get is a blank page and in the page title "gif image, 1x1 pixels".

After some searching I discovered that it was related to Net Barrier X5. There is a setting in the Surf > Banners Filter which was causeing the issue. Simply unclick the "Filter banners" setting and your sites will be visible again.

Apple Airport Express - problems with BT Home Hub Router

I recently got an Apple Airport Express and have not yet got it working with my BT Home Hub. I am pretty sure that the problem is related to the security settings on the BT Home Hub since it is possible to add the Airport Express to the hub when security is disabled.

Enabling the Airport Express has been far from the usual simple enjoyable Apple experience. I had anticipated turning it on and running through a set up routine and bingo, that's it.

So far I have found these posts which seem to be possible routes to a solution but I am still working on it.

Custom mail stationery templates in Apple OSX iMail

The built in imail stationery templates are superb, so easy to use, why wouldn't they be - this is apple after all. But what if you want to make your own templates because you are a business for example. Well actually it is relatively simple. The templates exist as a set of html, image and xml descriptor files. Some examples are available at Technosanity which should give you a starting point.

How to fix Apples Wireless mouse scroll wheel

Seems I am not the only Mac user with a faulty wireless mouse. You don't have to look hard to find a forum full of complaints about the wireless mouse Apple are currently shipping with Macs. However, there is a solution, turn the mouse upside down and roll the scroll wheel on a piece of paper to clean it. Hey presto, your scroll wheel works again!
