We have just been on a holiday to Cornwall with our 9 month old baby. A great deal of thought had gone into when we should travel, where we should stay and what equipment we should take. We were keen to avoid the temptation to take too much, but still ended up in a tight squeeze for space travelling down. Yes, we were one of those comical overpacked cars you see on the motorway.
The accommodation we carefully selected was one of Wooldowns properties, a very nice barn conversion just outside Bude. It was just as it looks on the web site which was pleaseing. The owners had promised that they would supply a cot, high chair and stair gate. On our arrival we were very happy with the place, set in the quiet village of Marhamchurch near Bude. Upon reviewing the equipment they had supplied I was dissapointed. The cot was a travel cot, the stair gate was missing essential fittings to secure it to the wall and the high chair was missing the straps. So altogehter unsatisfactory.
Fortunately we has put our own (better) travel cot in the car and our daughters usual travel chair which straps onto a normal chair. We managed carefully without the stair gate. The lesson to learn is that one persons idea of satisfactory equipment is not what your idea might be. If you want to be sure you have the right stuff, check and double check! We did and still didn't get what we expected. Always take a travel cot as a back up which you are used to, a trip with no sleep is not a holiday!
