Excluding IP Address ranges from Google Analytics reporting

When monitoring web site traffic it is important to measure true visitors. This is to say you should where possible exclude traffic form your organisation. Fortunately there is a facility to exclude traffic from specific IP addresses or indeed a range of IP's.
The documentation for how to perform this task appears to be wrong. In your analytics account click on an account
Then click filter manager
Next click Add a filter.
Fill in the form according to your requirements.
Filter Name: an arbitrary name
Predefined filter: allows you to refer to just one value
Custom filter: allows you to use IP address ranges and regular expressions
Typical settings I use to exclude a single IP address are shown below

If you want to exclude an IP range or multiple IP's you need to check out this useful tool which generates the values required in the custom filter settings.
