After reading about the MacLaren Stroller product recall in the USA I was concerned that I appeared to have one of the affected products, though it was bought in the UK. There seemed to be no information on their web site in the UK so I emailed them. I was very impressed to receive this morning the following message from the UK McLaren ......
"Thank you for your email regarding the Maclaren USA voluntary stroller
recall.
This recall affects US customers only and is not being implemented in
the UK or any other country outside of the USA.
This week, Maclaren USA will announce a voluntary 'recall to repair' of
all strollers, which will involve distributing a set of covers for the
buggy's elbow joint hinge mechanism. There is not product defect or
non-compliance with industry standards involved but they are taking this
precautionary measure due to an increase in the number of incidents in
the US where children have accidentally trapped their fingers in the
joint whilst coming into contact with while the buggy as it is being
unfolded.
Following careful consideration we decided that there was no requirement
for a similar program in the UK due to the low number of this type of
incident in the UK and especially as there is not a product defect or
non-compliance with the stringent EU quality standards for buggies.
Maclaren's famous umbrella buggies have served as the benchmark for
quality for this category and have maintained outstanding records for
safety and durability for over 40 years.
However, we continue to stress to all of our customers that carers keep
their children clear of their buggy while it being unfolded or folded,
which prevents injuries of this type happening. There is no risk of
finger entrapment when the buggy is fully erect.
I hope this information is of use. Thank you again for contacting us at
Maclaren."
