There's something missing from Drupal.org

Recently I've been thinking a lot about what is missing that could help the Drupal project achieve greater success. This was partly in preparation for the Drupal Strategy Summit but also a continuation of research I was already working on.

Introducing Drupal's vast Creative Commons image library

For several years a team of photographers have captured the essence of DrupalCon through the lens. Michael Cannon and more recently Suzanne Coates have done a sterling job formalising the photographic efforts into a professional (volunteer) operation. Not only is this a prime example of contributing to open source without code, we have curated a vast library of Creative Commons licensed images available for anyone to use.

Dear Drupalists I need your help

Those who know me will be well aware that I am both a passionate cyclist. Last June I wrote a blog about cycling. It told the dreadfully sad tale of a cyclist who died close to my home following a road traffic incident. In just 24 hours the post had over 10,000 reads. Learning that 3,239 cyclists were killed or seriously injured (KSI) in 2015 UK alone triggered me to take positive action, the result is my campaign "BeyondACyclist" which now has backing and support from CyclingUK.

Working in Drupal is a real job, really?!

Take a moment to think back to the moment you first discovered it was possible to pursue a career in Drupal. Cast your mind even further back to how you actually heard about Drupal. For many of us, myself included, it was serendipity. A coincidence which changed the course of your life for the better. We read the right article, happened across a meetup, spoke to the right person. Sound familiar? More likely this than thinking at University or school that was the career path we were targeting.

Help Dries crowdsource Drupal 8 success stories

In little over a month Drupal 8 will be one year old. To mark this momentous occasion Dries Buytaert, Drupal’s founder, will champion noteworthy web sites and applications powered by Drupal 8.

Have you launched a Drupal 8 web site or application this year? Dries would like to hear from you. We’ve prepared a short web form so you can tell him your Drupal 8 success story.

A seminal moment for Drupal - DrupalCon Asia

Once the dust settles we will begin to realise DrupalCon Asia was indeed a seminal moment in the history of Drupal. In this short time, as I've managed the social media for the conference, I've watched the Asian Drupal Community come of age.

Huge respect has grown for the region has been born out of the event through high calibre presentations, floorless executing of the event, sheer energy, cultural diversity and harmony. I have no doubt this event was exactly the impetus the region deserved. There's a lot to celebrate.

Celebrate Drupal 8 - how it was done

As with many crazy ideas this all started in a bar. No ordinary bar, this was DrupalCon Barcelona Trivia Night. @BarisW said “so what are you going to do about Drupal 8’s release, we’re relying on you”. I was phased, but it set my mind in motion.

I am one of those people who, when faced with a challenge, believe the impossible is possible. How do I reach every corner of the globe and spread the word of this amazing new Drupal 8 thing? This is the story of how Celebr8D8 came to be, and I didn't do it alone.

Tell me your Celebr8D8 plans

I am spearheading the Drupal 8 release celebrations on social media Thursday 19th November. Perhaps, like me, you have been working behind the scenes on a personal project to mark this significant occasion. If you have a website, special party, publicity stunt planned I'm keen to know about it. Come the big day I will use Drupal's social media and @Celebr8D8 to tell the world about your event, site, stunt.

Use my Drupal.org contact form to let me know about your release day plans. Thanks!

Which countries have contributed most to Drupal 8?

For some time I have been using official Drupal social media channels to champion individuals and communities in countries beyond USA and Europe. To recognise that Drupal is a truly global community, where all are welcome and do take part. Now I have some interesting and fascinating evidence that this is true, read on.

Drupal 8 hall of fame

At DrupalCon I arranged for a 9 metre squared floor decal celebrating the top 1000 contributors to Drupal 8. So many of you asked for access to the original artwork, and many who could not be at the conference, so I have prepared this page so you can!
